KerchNET came out on top of the ASUS Final Battle of the Year with a 2-0 victory over paistit in the final. Held at Kiev's CyberSports ARENA, the tournament attracted a total of 12 teams, who battled it out for the top prize of $6,000 in what may well have been the very last international event to feature CS 1.6. There were some teams in attendance who had made their mark in 1.6, such as Virtus.pro and KerchNET, but also mix teams with familiar faces on them, like Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen's paistit or Alexey "OverDrive" Birukov's 12.12.12. Only the top three teams from both groups progressed to the playoffs, played in a single elimination mode, with KerchNET and paistit progressing to the final after hard-fought victories over Virtus.pro and 12.12.12, respectively. In the tournament decider, it would be the Ukrainians to secure bragging rights, defeating Kovanen's team on just two maps (16-11 on de_nuke and 16-8 on de_tuscan).
